India Keen To Keep Kirsten

India are planning to extend the contract of coach Gary Kirsten until the 2011 World Cup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have announced.

The former South Africa opening batsman penned a two-year deal with the BCCI in March 2008, with media reports indicating he would return to his homeland at the end of his contract in March this year.

Indeed, Kirsten was rumoured to be the front-runner to replace Mickey Arthur as South Africa coach after he surprisingly left the post last week.
Eager

However, BCCI president Shanshank Manohar has revealed the board are eager to extend Kirsten's stay and expect him to continue in his position.

"He will continue his stint with the Indian team," Manohar told DNA. "We will renew his contract."

Kirsten also denied links with the vacant Proteas role, adding: "I have not been contacted by Cricket South Africa."

South Africa, in the care of interim coach Corrie van Zyl, are currently in India for two Tests and three one-day internationals, beginning this weekend.
