Kiwis Crush Bangladesh Again

New Zealand completed a crushing five-wicket victory over Bangladesh and with it the series in the second one-day international in Dunedin.

Dan Vettori's Black Caps scored a second ODI success over their Asian opponents in the space of three days with Ross Taylor leading them home with 78 from just 52 balls.

The hosts were set a target of just 184 to win the match after Mushfiqur Rahim had rescued his side from the abyss, his 86 going a long way to spare his side humiliation after they were reduced to 25 for five inside 13 overs.

Mushfiqur put on 101 with Naeem Islam (43) for the seventh wicket after Andy Mackay (2-17) had removed two of the top five batsmen, but their total was never likely to be enough.

While opening bowler Shafiul Islam took three New Zealand wickets, he was not spared has the Kiwis eased to their target inside 28 overs, Taylor adding 79 with James Franklin (20 not out) before holing out with six runs still needed.

Rahim's record stand with Islam had earlier frustrated the hosts as Bangladesh batted out their 50 overs following a disastrous start after being put in.

The pair cut loose late in the session, sending Daryl Tuffey's last three overs for 35 and Ian Butler's last three for 33 after taking their batting powerplay with six overs remaining.

Butler gained revenge of sorts by removing both batsmen to finish with three for 43 but even Shahadat Hossain got in on the act with 16 not out off seven balls.

Brendon McCullum was soon sent back by Shafiul as New Zealand began their reply but Martin Guptill (32) together with Peter Ingram (28) steadied the ship with a 41-run stand.

Rubel Hossain (2-68) eventually took care of both batsmen but by the time he had bowled Guptill New Zealand were on their way, with Taylor well set as he went on to club six fours and five sixes.

There was time for Shafiul to dismiss Neil Broom first ball after Taylor picked out Mahmudullah on the mid-wicket boundary, but the trusty Vettori saw his side home by hitting the next ball for four.
