Patrick to Make NASCAR Debut

Danica Patrick is to make her NASCAR debut in the Nationwide Series season-opener at the Daytona International Speedway on Saturday.

The IndyCar star announced the decision on Monday, two days after she finished sixth in her stock car debut in an ARCA race, also held at Daytona.

"Racing in the Nationwide Series race was my goal during this entire two-month preparation process, but we wanted to make sure it was the right thing to do," Patrick said.

"The ARCA race was a blast, and I'm not ready for my first Daytona Speedweeks to end just yet. I want more racing."

Saturday's Nationwide race is the first of 13 Patrick plans to take part in this year - a schedule that fits around her IndyCar commitments.

The 27-year-old, who is the only woman in history to win an IndyCar race, will drive for the JR Motorsports team, whose co-owner, Dale Earnhardt Jr, will also race one day before he competes in the Sprint Cup's season-opener, the Daytona 500.

Patrick will also run in the next two Nationwide races at Auto Club Speedway in California and Las Vegas before taking nearly four months off before her next NASCAR event on June 26 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
